Remote Reporting
Before determining which monitoring device is best for any particular door, the specifier must determine the level of security desired.
A simple reed switch will report if a door is opened or closed but it will not report if it is locked or unlocked. A signal switch used in an electric strike will only report if the tripper is depressed, it cannot report that the door is necessarily locked. A combination of these two features however can be arranged to give total protection against anything but the most skilful attack. No amount of status monitoring, however good, will be successful if it is not accompanied by a reasonable level of supervision.
